Well, this is just about the worst news possible! Major George Ferguson is consulting on cutting the staffing from Hengrove Play Park as part of the budget savings for Bristol City Council.
If the Play Park doesn't have staff then it means that it will have to be shut to the public, this is AWFUL news for the community that use the play park regularly (over 100K a year). This also has a MASSIVE impact on the skatepark as the play park staff work very hard keeping the place clean, tidy and repairing the broken concrete. They also CONTROL THE LIGHTS, that means that there will be NO MORE FLOOD LIGHTING...
This is the worst possible news i have ever heard, Hengrove Skatepark has been a home to me for over 10 years, since the day it opened. I would be distraught if this was to get passed and i feel extremely sorry for Yasmina and Mark as they have put many hours of their time into the area and local community. They make sure the place is safe and work with less fortunate kids from deprived backgrounds. They don't get paid ANYWHERE NEAR what they should for the amount of time, effort and problems they have to deal with day to day.
There is a demonstration SATURDAY 7th DECEMBER at 10am at Hengrove Play/Skate Park. This is to show our strength in the community and to let it be seen and heard that we WILL NOT TAKE THIS! We have a petition for everyone to sign. Please feel free to bring banners, but remember there will be small children so we want a peaceful demonstration where we can voice our opposition to this cut.
We urge you all to try and make it to Hengrove on Saturday morning otherwise here are links to more information and ways to help for people that cannot make it:
