I'm sure many of you now know that Bath Victoria Skatepark is now back open with its new concrete layout.
It was a sad day when we heard that the old skatepark was being decommissioned and pulled down, it had a lot of history; Supporting BMX, Skateboarding and rollerblades since the 80's. We were bummed out for sure.
However our feeling have subsided as the new park ROCKS! and lets not be funny, the metal ramps were pretty dangous, i'm unsure how it even lasted that long!
So to run you through what they have at the new complex. It's got a MASSIVE bowl, and when i say big....i mean it's wide, long, deep and with many possible lines to conquer. At the deep end it measures 12FT with PLENTY of vertical-ness . Can i get a show of hands from the Vert riders? Yeah...Not many..but i'm sure this will be up your street if you do. #CrucialGang Cappy fully enjoyed it (picture evidence coming in my next post).
Then at the opposite end we have what i believe to be exactly 6ft - I'm sure someone will correct me, but it was modeled exactly on the old Midi-Ramp and rides a treat. You can go bloody fast and you don't have to pull out too much, nor does it kick you into oblivion. Its just right.
We then move to the mellow beginner bowl that leads into the plaza street section. This bit it alright, very skateboard, much smallness. It works but its not groundbreaking. It will keep you busy while you wait for your turn to drop back into the bowl. Its pretty similar to any other new skatepark plaza section. Small jump box that pretty worthless, and a couple of grinders and a bike length rail down a double 2 or maybe 3 set.
One interesting section is around the tree that's always been a feature, its got four nice ledges with coping and would be fun for a grind session. Unfortunately i didn't ride much of this because the other flat section with a flat rail, pole-jam and a manual pad was fenced off as it had to be finished in tarmac rather than concrete. It what you'd expect really.
If you're keen for a session i highly recommend going there in the day while the little ones are at school or if you fancy winning some prizes and letting everyone know you're the MAN, CANVAS the skatepark designers and builders (who are based in Bristol!) have an opening jam happening this coming Saturday (26th September) for BMX, Skateboarding and Scooters. We put up prizes so you know it will be good!
I'll stop waffling now so check out these images
